Imposing environmental requirements the right way

There are different ways of imposing environmental requirements in the procurement process.

Procurement legislation makes is possible to observe environmental requirements throughout the procurement process. Before the current directives gained legal effect in 2004, there was an option of taking environmental concerns into consideration during procurement through legal standards. Under the new directives, this option has been clarified.

Environmental considerations can be taken into account during various phases of the procurement process, depending on what the aim of the requirements is. Procurement legislation provides expressed opportunities to take environmental concerns into consideration.
