Information about origin can be enlightening for contracting authorities, e.g. which environmental laws applied to the production. Traceability is a prerequisite for being able to track any product defects and ensuring that the product meets the correct quality requirements.

Criterion text
For compound products with a raw material content of cereals, sugar, fruit, vegetables etc. of over 20% of the individual product, written information regarding where (crop land) the raw material is cultivated and processed must be provided on request.
Verification
Upon request, the supplier shall be ready to present one of the following, for example:
- Information of origin in product database
- Labelling on the product
- Delivery note or equivalent
Subject matter of contract
Sustainable production of cereals and other grain products.
Information about the criterion
Indicate clearly in the tender documentation which compound foods are covered by the requirement.
Environmental goals
Motive
Within the EU, there are statutory requirements for traceability for a number of product groups such as meat, honey, olive oil as well as fruit and vegetables. Discussions are also being held on introducing mandatory traceability requirements for other food, but there are currently none for cereals or sugar.
Today there are traceability systems for all sorts of foods, which have systems that aim to provide information on individual items, outer packaging, pallets or batches. Companies which make use of such systems get control of where the ingredients and finished products come from and where they are delivered.
