LCC stands for life-cycle costing. The reason for using LCC-tools in procurement is to get the full picture of the costs associated with a product, service or works.
LCC shows that the purchase price is only one of several costs parameters connected to purchasing and owning a product. In addition to the purchase price, an LCC-tool also includes all relevant costs during the
use phase and the end phase, for example:
- Operating costs, including energy, fuel or water usage.
- Costs of maintenance
- Costs of disposal
An LCC calculation may also include the cost of externalities, such as greenhouse gas emissions, if their monetary value can be determined and verified in a standardised way.The LCC-tools below are developed by the National Agency for Public Procurement and are free to use. In the tools, comparisons can be made between various product solutions. The LCC-tools are based on the present value method to be able to discount future cost to present value. A function for calculating climate impact, based on energy or fuel consumption, is included in the tool. The climate impact in our tools is measured as carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2-e).
