Criterion text
The supplier’s commitment:
The supplier must, from the start of the contract only supply products of coffee, tea and cocoa which are cultivated under working conditions compatible with:
- ILO:s core conventions on forced labour, child labour, discrimination, freedom of association and right to organize (no. 29, 87, 98, 100, 105, 111, 138 och 182)
- The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, article 32
- The laws regarding work environment and labour in force in the country where the labour is performed.
Verification
Upon request, the supplier shall be ready to present one of the following, for example:
- Labelling which meets the contract terms, for example Rainforest Alliance, UTZ Certified, Fairtrade or equivalent labelling.
- Own third party-certification program from the supplier.

- Product labelling
- Request documentation from the supplier which verifies the contract terms. The contracting authority may request that the information is validated by an independent third party. The supplier bears the costs for this.

Information about the criterion
Several organizations, among others Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified and other actors work with increasing the environmental, social and economic sustainability in the coffee, tea and cocoa-sectors. The demand for and supply of sustainably produced coffee, tea and cocoa products is constantly increasing.
Please observe that this contract term regards socially responsible cultivation of specific products. Contracting terms regarding workers’ rights according to the ILO core conventions and contract terms on sustainable supply chains (only in Swedish) aims at ensuring that the supplier has sufficient procedures in the organization to handle risks in the supply chain.
Motive
Production of coffee, tea and cocoa products often takes place in countries with extensive poverty. Cultivation and export of these crops is an important income source for many people in rural areas. Apart from ensuring fair working conditions is the work to ensure living incomes for growers an important sustainability issue for all actor engaged in sustainable production terms in coffee, tea and cocoa-producing countries.
Several organizations, among others Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified and other actors work with increasing the environmental, social and economic sustainability in the coffee, tea and cocoa-sectors. The organizations have different approaches, but all encourage more sustainable production systems.
