Fuel
Fuel is one of the industrial sectors responsible for the by far greatest emission of carbon dioxide, as far as sales to the public sector are concerned (The Swedish EPA's report 5903 <em>Konsumtionens klimatpåverkan</em> [The effect of consumption on the climate]). Another significant environmental impact resulting from the production of fuel is the usage of water and pesticides, and the effect that these have on land and aquatic environments.<br />It is important that demands are made of both renewable and fossil fuels. The raw materials used to produce fuel have a significant impact on overall carbon emissions, but also on biodiversity. The fuels currently available on the market differ both in terms of production method and climate impact, and there is therefore great potential for contracting authorities to choose a more environmentally beneficial alternative.
