Subject matter of contract
Fish and shellfish with sustainability criteria
Information about the criterion
Requirement ID 11112 is developed for other fishery-and aquaculture products than the ones mentioned in a, b, c and e in annex I to the Regulation on the common organization of the market for fishery and aquaculture products (EU) no 1397/2013 and are subject to legal demands regarding information of commercial designation, production method and fishing area according to article 35 in the same Regulation. The legal requirement covers for example whole fish, fillets, fresh, frozen, chilled, salted or smoked products and boiled shrimp with shells but does not include prepared or preserved products such as for example seasoned marinades and breaded products (see more examples below).
The requirement goes beyond the Regulations’ demands in demanding the information to be available for all products containing more than 20% percentage by weight of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and/or other aquatic invertebrates, for example by use of traceability-labelling, directly on the package or by referring to an updated website, product catalogue or similar. Referral can be appropriate for products for which the recipe varies according to season and ingredient-availability. Please observe that one product may contain several ingredients of fish and/or shellfish. In these cases, the information must be provided for all marine and/or aquatic ingredients.
