EU-organic product

Follow-up during the contract period can be done, for example, by random sampling on one or more occasions on the product / products where the requirement is set. The supplier can show that the product / products meet the requirements with, for example:

• EU organic certificate. Check that the certificate covers the product/products on which the requirement has been set.
• Labeling on the product with the EU organic logo "Euro-leaf".

Products of pork with environmental and animal protection criteria

The EU's rules for organic production cover the entire food chain such as the production, preparation, storage and import of organically produced agricultural products. Yeast, feed and products from aquaculture are also included in the regulations.

According to the EU's action plan for organic production, which the EU Commission adopted in March 2021, there is an overarching goal that 25 percent of the EU's agricultural area should be organic by 2030. In Sweden's national food strategy, there is a target that 30 percent of Swedish agricultural land should consists of certified organic farmland in 2030 and 60 percent of public food consumption must consist of certified organic products in 2030.

According to KRAV's rules for imports, the requirement within the product group can be verified with the EU organic label, KRAV label or equivalent.

Regulation (EU) 2018/848 on organic production and labelling of organic products, include the whole value chain, such as the production, preparation, storage and import of organically produced agricultural products. Yeast, feed and products from aquaculture are also included in the regulations.

Organic production is a comprehensive system for producing food and agricultural products in a sustainable and long-term way. It should contribute to a high degree of biodiversity and protect the environment. The organic farmer must use energy and natural resources such as water, soil, organic material and air in a way that affects the environment as little as possible.

Crops (such as vegetables, fruit, cereals etc.): In an organic farm, the soil's natural fertility and biodiversity must be preserved and improved. Instead of artificial fertilizer, agriculture receives nutrition from, for example, plant compost and manure from its own farm. Preventive measures such as good crop rotation and resistant varieties are used to prevent or limit infestation by diseases and pests.

Meat and dairy products: One of the basic principles in organic animal husbandry is to contribute to extra high animal welfare and in particular to respect the animals' species-specific and behavioral needs. The animals must, for example, have the opportunity for regular exercise and, if necessary, access to outdoor activities and grazing. As a general rule, organic cattle must have permanent access to outdoor activities during the vegetation period. All feed must be GMO-free and organic.

In order to sell a product as organic in the EU, production must be in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2018/848 on organic production and labelling of organic products, regardless of the country of manufacture.
