Glues used in the manufacture of furniture

The content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)¹ in the glues used in the furniture shall not exceed 10% by weight. 

The content of formaldehyde in the glues used in the furniture shall not exceed 0.2% by weight. The requirement applies to glue without added hardener. 

The supplier shall be able to prove, on request, that the requirement has been fulfilled. [The contracting organisation] may request that the data be verified by an independent third party. 

¹Volatile organic compound is defined under Directive 2010/75/EU as an organic compound and the fraction of creosote which at 293,15 k has a vapour pressure of at least 0.01 kPa or which has equivalent volatility under the specific conditions of use. 

When requested, the supplier must be able to present for example one of the following: 

• Labellings that meet the requirement, such as a valid license for 
  • EU Ecolabel for furniture 2016/1332/EU
  • Nordic Swan Ecolabel, Furniture and furnishings
  • Möbelfakta 
• Technical documentation from the manufacturer demonstrating that the requirement is met 
• The company's self-declaration/supplier's declaration including technical documentation of compliance verified by an accredited verification body, accredited for the task according to ISO/IEC 17029 or equivalent standard.
